Tennis

Tennis is a racquet sport played either individually against a single opponent (singles) or between two teams of two players each (doubles). The game is played on a rectangular court divided by a net, and players use their racquets to hit a felt-covered rubber ball over the net into the opponent’s court. The objective is to score points by making the ball land in the opponent’s court in a way that they cannot return it. Points are awarded based on the rules of scoring, which include games, sets, and matches. Tennis is known for its use of serve and volley, groundstrokes, and various playing surfaces, including grass, clay, and hard courts. It is governed by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and features major tournaments such as the Grand Slam events: the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. Tennis can be recreational or professional and is played by people of all ages worldwide.
